2016 Poker Walk and Brooksie Way training quickly approaching
16-6-10 Poker Walk-Brooksie
Though it may see that spring has barely arrived, the Oakland University Poker Walk and the 2016 HAP Brooksie Way half marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids Race events are quickly approaching.

The 6th Annual Poker Walk – set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 – will welcome faculty and staff to walk a 1-mile or new 1.5-mile route beginning at the Elliott Tower.

Participants will collect poker chips along the route and trade them in for a hand of playing cards that will be evaluated for the day’s best poker hand. In addition to the three top poker hands, prizes will also be awarded for the best team costume, most enthusiastic team and best team name.

The event registration deadline is Monday, May 16, and online registration is available for both teams and individuals. Additional information is available under the “Programs and Events” tab of the Employee Well-Being web page or by contacting Stephanie Willis at willis@oakland.edu or (248) 370-4968.

Runners, walkers and other healthy lifestyle advocates within the campus community are also encouraged and incentivized to participate in this year’s Brooksie Way events. Discounted pricing for faculty, staff and their spouses is available for the 5k or 10k Brooksie Way summer training programs, which includes the training program, race registration, t-shirt, and more. Employees can register for the 5k training program for only $50, or the 10k for just $65.

The training programs are designed to help prepare both new and seasoned runners and walkers to take part in the 5k, 10k or half marathon races during the Brooksie way, which is set for Sunday, Sept. 25, here on campus.

University Recreation and Well-Being and Employee Wellness are offering an additional $10 off the summer training program cost to the first 50 employees who register using code OU2016. Also, the Brooksie Way is also offering OU faculty and staff a $5 discount using code OUstaff16 on admission to any event race, independent of participation in summer training programs.

Those interested in learning more should visit the Brooksie Way training website and/or contact Stephanie Willis.
