Women and Philanthropy

Women have never had such power and possibility. Globally, we are gaining more opportunities, and women’s capacity to impact philanthropy is unprecedented. Women and Philanthropy provides opportunities for women to collectively share their time and resources to positively affect the future of Oakland University.  By providing opportunities for engagement, Women and Philanthropy members discover their passions and interests, and connect with other women who are committed to the success of OU.

Membership is on an annual basis and begins with a minimum gift of $1,000 (one-time gift or split into multiple gifts). To encourage emerging philanthropists, women under the age of 40 can join for $250.

The Pillars of Women and Philanthropy

Our Purpose
Women and Philanthropy consists of women who each make annual commitments to a collective fund. Every year, members vote on how the funds will be allocated among OU top programs, initiatives and scholarships.

Showcasing OU
Women and Philanthropy members are invited to engage with some of the best and brightest faculty, staff and students. These programs connect members with the top programs at OU.

Connecting Philanthropists
Women and Philanthropy connects women with many interests together to join forces to make a difference at OU.

Making a Difference
Women and Philanthropy provides new and highlights existing volunteer opportunities that provide a way for members to put their passions to work to assist with programs and help students.

Apply to receive a Women and Philanthropy grant:
OU students, faculty and staff are eligible to request funding for a project or program. Grant applications for 2019 will be accepted from July-September.

2018 Grant Awards
Women and Philanthropy is excited to announce the recipients of the 2018 grant awards, which were selected from a competitive group of submissions. A total of 36 requests were made, with three receiving funding. They are:

1) Student Organic Farm ($5,000 award), which will expand the hoop house and help extend the growing season and the sustainability of the farm.

2) “A Woman’s Life (and Love)” research project ($5,000 award), which will help make possible a voice recording of a song written from the female point of view.

3) OUWB School of Medicine Passport to Medicine program ($5,000 award), which aims to help students, and females in particular, consider careers in healthcare. This project promotes student success for all levels of students within OU/OUWB and in the community, promotes community engagement by strengthening the relationship with a local community partner and expands efforts with respect to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education, and in the healthcare professions specifically.
