Bio
Eugene Clark received his BFA in drawing and painting from the Center for Creative Studies in 1988. He did post-graduate study in 1989-90 at Cranbrook Academy of Art in the MFA Printmaking program. In 1994 he received his MFA in drawing/Installation/performance from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. After traveling extensively throughout Europe and Greece, Clark moved to New York City from 1996 - 1997 where he became the assistant to the director of the 303 Gallery in Chelsea. While in New York he teamed up with artist Don Puglisi to form Artists on Pavement, a performance and visual art duo. They became very active in the Manhattan art scene performing in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum in Soho, and the Greenwich Village Center Theater, as part of the Downtown Arts Festival. Exhibitions of Clark’s work include: Braunschweig Art Academy, Germany, Pat Hearn Gallery,New York, NY, CB’s 313 Gallery, New York, NY, and the Cleveland Performance Art Festival, Cleveland, OH. Clark’s work was selected by X Files creator Chris Carter, to be included in the book “Art of the X Files”, published by Harper Collins. He was selected by the Jim Henson Foundation to perform at the Eugene O’Neil Theater Center. Clark exhibited an installation / performance at the Center Galleries, Detroit, titled “eat right & think clean”. This work included documented imagery from his travels in Kenya, Tanzania, and Jamaica. He was invited to present a lecture of his work at Cranbrook Academy of Art, in conjunction with this exhibition. Clark currently teaches drawing, painting, and anatomy, at Oakland University.
