Are you a high school junior or senior with a passion for music, theatre or dance? Curious about what it’s like to be a student at Oakland University’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance? Join us for our Major for a Day program and experience it firsthand!
Spend a day attending classes based on your degree interest, shadow current students, meet with our world-class faculty, and explore campus life. If you’re a music student, you can sit in on Wind Symphony or Oakland Chorale rehearsals, depending on your instrument or voice focus. You may also have the opportunity to enjoy a short private lesson with our talented applied faculty.
Plus, lunch is on us, and you’ll get to dine with current SMTD students, followed by a guided tour of our beautiful campus.
This program is completely free, and we can’t wait to welcome you to the exciting world of the arts at Oakland University. Whether you’re interested in music, theatre or dance, this is your chance to see what it’s like to study in our vibrant, dynamic community.

Selection Process
There is no selection process for this program. Once you sign up, we will reach out to you to begin the scheduling process. Spots are first-come first-served, and available throughout the Fall semester.
Time-frame & Grade Levels
We encourage all high school Juniors and Seniors to register for a visit. During the Fall semester (September-December), we have no limitations on who can register. During the Winter semester (January - April), we will prioritize audition candidates trying to make a decision on which school they will attend.
Non-guarantee
While we make every effort to schedule every visit, sometimes it is just not possible due to the demand volume. We cannot guarantee a visit will happen when you sign up. Many factors are in play in scheduling visits, including faculty schedules, ensemble performance conflicts, campus closures, etc.
Visit Days
We offer visits on weekdays only, and cannot accommodate weekend visits. Each area has specific visit days, which will be explained to you once you receive a follow-up email after registering.
Cost
This program is completely free to you. During your visit, you will be provided with a meal voucher to use in the OC at the Pioneer Food Court.
