PACE program leader honored with national award
Amy Johnson's award recognizes scholarship, leadership and contributions to the profession of a person who has entered the continuing, online and professional education field in the past five to 10 years.

The University Professional and Continuing Education Association, (UPCEA) has named Oakland University’s Amy Johnson, MAT, MA, LPC, TLS, CPDT-KA as recipient of the Adelle F. Robertson Emerging Professional Continuing Educator Award. She was recognized with her award at the UPCEA’s 101st Annual Conference in San Diego on April 8.

This is an award of the highest distinction and honor in continuing education and, in particular, recognizes scholarship, leadership and contributions to the profession of a person who has entered the continuing, online and professional education field in the past five to 10 years. 


Johnson leads OU’s Center for Human Animal Interventions and the Animal Assisted Therapy certificate program. They are run collaboratively through the university’s Professional and Continuing Education and the School of Nursing.

Lori Crose, Director of Operations and Development, Continuing Education Strategic Programs at Oakland University nominated Johnson for a UPCEA Central Region award. After being chosen for that honor, Johnson was picked out of regional winners for the national award.


“I believe in the power of continuing education and the work being done in our Center for Human Animal Interventions having seen so many people successfully improve their career outlook,” said Johnson. “However, I was both surprised and humbled to be honored by the UPCEA for the work I consider my passion.”

About Center for Human Animal Interventions programs:

The Center for Human Animal Interventions is located in the School of Nursing and runs in conjunction with Professional and Continuing Education (PACE). Keeping with the main objectives of the Center, the program will become the primary resource for all things related to the Human Animal Bond and Animal Assisted Interventions and will contribute to research and literature within the area of study.  A key component to this program is the implementation and advancement of ethical standards and competencies to be used as an industry standard by both professionals and volunteers in the field of HAB and AAI.
