Pre-Med Student Gains Valuable Experience

For college students, internships often provide an opportunity to see what it will be like to work in their particular field. For David Tawney, a pre-med student at Oakland University, he not only gained valuable insight but has also helped the growth and success of CureLauncher. For Tawney, the ability to work with a dynamic company that has been revolutionizing the medical industry, his internship was the perfect fit. The internship at CureLauncher has allowed Tawney to meet and interact with leading medical professionals, contribute and implement ideas on how to grow the company, and to get direct work experience within his field of study.

Tawney grew up in Clinton Township his whole life. With two twin older brothers having graduated from Oakland University, Tawney was destined to begin his college career at OU. Majoring in biology, Tawney is planning on attending medical school at Wayne State, MSU, or OU upon graduation. On weekends, Tawney enjoys to play golf.

At CureLauncher, Tawney is the clinical trials specialist. As the clinical trials specialist, he is responsible for matching patients with cancer, stroke, and other various conditions to clinical trials across the country. Through direct communication with the patients, Tawney is able to learn more about their conditions and look for the best possible treatment options that suit their specific needs. Tawney is also responsible for connecting the patient to the trial site and taking the next step in the matching process.

“My experience with CureLauncher began last summer where I performed research on the accessibility and accuracy of clinical trials listed by pharmaceutical companies, cancer centers, health systems, and other trial site” Tawney said “It opened my eyes to the glaring need for a reliable, unbiased, patient-friendly clinical trial matching service that CureLauncher now provides.”

Tawney has found great insight and gained valuable experience from his internship at CureLauncher. Insight that few people get before joining the job market and that can help students further understand the needs and areas that are driving their fields of study.

“The part that makes CureLauncher so special is that it is there for the patient every step of the way” said Tawney “Working in a patient-centered environment, I have found my experience to be invaluable as a pre-med student and the importance of having a “patient-first” mindset in the medical field.”
