Global Arts in Ghana
The next Ghana trip will be in 2016 Summer I. Applications are due with deposit by February 1. Final program fees will be due by May 1, and an orientation meeting will occur in early May. Students will participate in classes prior to departure on campus at OU from May 16 - 20 at OU in Varner Hall. (Monday to Thursday), then travel to Ghana, West Africa, for class at the Dagara Music Center from May 23 - June 14.
Capital city, Accra.
At the Dagara Music Center, daily lessons will include the study of traditional drumming, gyil (Dagara xylophone), dance, and song, as well as traditional arts and crafts. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue a research project on a topic of their choice.

A yellow fever vaccine and a passport with student Visa are required by the Ghanaian government to enter the country.
Vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Polio, and Meningococcal are also strongly recommended.
For our studies at OU, all students will need the textbook Music and Dance Traditions of Ghana: History, Performance and Teaching.
For our studies in Ghana all students will need a journal and a video or audio recorder.
However, students must demonstrate a clear desire to learn about the arts and culture of Ghana. As part of the application process, students will be asked to complete an essay describing how the study abroad experience in Ghana relates to their academic and career goals and how they hope to personally benefit from this experience.
Students must also provide two letters of recommendation and a physician’s certificate of good health as part of their application.
