DREAM Initiative
Determination and Resilience through Education, Achievement, and Motivation
The DREAM Initiative is a two-year, grant-funded pilot program designed to support first-generation college students at Oakland University. Since its launch, DREAM has served two dedicated cohorts – Cohort 1 (Fall 2023) and Cohort 2 (Fall 2024) – offering personalized support, mentorship, and a strong sense of community. At this time, the program is focused on continuing its support for those two cohorts as students complete their second and third years. While the pilot is not currently expanding to additional students, our commitment to current DREAM participants remains strong. Current participants benefit from:
- A close-knit “crew” experience that fosters connection and belonging.
- Dedicated advocacy and resource navigation from a university staff member.
- Peer mentorship and encouragement from trained student leaders.
- Personalized financial aid guidance and planning.
- Academic advising through the First Year Advising Center.
- Optional residential community with fellow DREAM peers.
The DREAM Initiative currently supports students in Cohort 1 and Cohort 2. For more information contact Asia Bennett, DREAM Coordinator, at [email protected] or (248) 370-3364.
