Patti Finnegan Sharf Study Abroad Scholarship

The International Studies Program (ISP) is introducing a new study abroad scholarship being offered this semester.  The Patti Finnegan Sharf Study Abroad Scholarship has been made accessible to eligible University undergraduate students to be used for participation in a University approved study abroad program.

Eligibility requirements:

  1. must be an undergraduate student enrolled in a major program in the College of Arts and Sciences
  2. the eligible student must travel outside of the United States of America through a University-approved academic program
  3. preference will be given to students who otherwise would not be able to participate in such a study abroad program due to financial need

A completed application may be mailed or hand delivered to the Interdisciplinary Programs office at 521 Varner Hall Oakland University, Rochester, MI 48903.  All applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, March 24, 2016.


Kaviuk & Kirachuk Slavic Studies Scholarship Application

The scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Frederick G. Kaviuk and Ms. Mary Kirachuk to assist eligible students who are committed to the study of Slavic life, culture, language or history.  Students should have taken or be enrolled in IS 260.

A completed application may be mailed or hand delivered to the Interdisciplinary Programs office at 521 Varner Hall Oakland University, Rochester, MI 48903.  All applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, March 24, 2016.


The Gretchen J. Adler Study Abroad Endowed Fund

The International Studies Program  (ISP) announces the availability of  scholarships from the Gretchen J. Adler Study Abroad Endowed Fund.   Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, travel and/or room and board expenses relating to student participation in a University-approved study abroad program, during the Academic Year 2015-2016.    University-approved study abroad programs are those listed on the web page of the Office of International Education.   Following donor preferences, the award is limited to students who intend to study in Europe or China.  More than one award may be given.

Students otherwise eligible for this award include those who:

  1. are undergraduates enrolled in a humanities or social science program in the College of Arts and Sciences
  2. have successfully completed a minimum of 8 credits of college level study in a foreign language related to their study abroad program or project
  3. commit to a period of study abroad for a minimum of one full semester.

The Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh Islamic Studies Scholarship

The Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh Islamic Studies Scholarship was established in honor of the late Mrs. Sheikh, a native of Lahore, Pakistan.  Although Mrs. Sheikh was schooled at home in a traditional manner and did not receive a formal education, she held a strong belief in education and encouraged all eight of her children to pursue college studies; three of her children are practicing physicians.  Mrs. Sheikh was active in her community and a leader in her faith; she performed Hajj and continue to do so even after she was severely disabled by arthritis.

Eligibility: Undergraduate students may apply who have completed at least one course in the curriculum for the Islamic Studies minor and meet University standards for academic achievement.  The scholarship may be used towards a university approved study abroad program or tuition.

The R. F. and Robert C. Howes Slavic Studies Fund

 

Established by Robert C. Howes, Director of the Honors College in 1985 and Dr. and Mrs. Annan to contribute to the advancement of Slavic Studies at Oakland University.  This will include speakers' honoraria, purchase of books, purchase or rental of films, faculty or student travel, and financial aid to students.  Students interested in this fund should contact Paul Kubicek at kubicek@oakland.edu.
