Transfer Year Experience

Welcome to your Transfer Year Experience (TYE)!

You made the right choice transferring to Oakland University to complete your studies. Oakland Univeristy provides exceptional opportunities for growth and the Office of Student Success is here to connect you to information, resources and academic success tips!

In the semester you transfer, schedule an academic advising appointment, ideally in the month before you start your classes. Unsure who your academic adviser is? Use the find my academic adviser webpage.

At your academic advising appointment, you and your Academic Adviser will discuss several topics:

  • Your transfer credit: How can you make the credits you already have work for you at OU?
  • Your major: How do you know you’re in a major that is the right fit for you?
  • Your graduation plan: Are you taking the classes that will help you profess toward graduation?
  • Academic performance: Are you living up to your own expectations in the classroom?
  • Engagement opportunities: Are you aware of all the things you can do on campus related to your major? Are you aware of all of the opportunities to get involved on campus?
  • Investment: Are you enjoying your college experience?  What other things can you do to have a better college experience?

You’ll also receive an OU t-shirt for coming in to see your Academic Adviser (while supplies last, so don’t put off seeing your Academic Adviser)!

Engage now in your future by using these valuable resources:
Transfer Student Golden Grizzly Guide: to have a smooth transition to OU in your first semester and beyond.
Career Tool: to learn more about all of our majors, from program descriptions to course information related to majors, plus career options and salary guide.
Handshake: to find internships and job opportunities, on and off campus.
Your Well-being: to use the resources available for your optimal wellness as a student.

Full year registration happens every year, beginning in late March and your day to register is based on the number of credits completed and transferred.

You can discuss your registration plan with your Academic Adviser during a Winter advising appointment before your scheduled registration time.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the first day registration opens for you (go to Important Dates and click on the Winter tab). Upper level classes tend to be smaller and fill up quicker, so register as soon as possible to get the schedule you want.
