Join the Oakland Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall for the OSO’s final concert of the season.

The orchestra will perform Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland and A Survivor from Warsaw, Op. 46 by Arnold Schoenberg, with John-Paul White, narrator.

They will be joined by the Oakland Symphony Chorus and the Detroit Concert Choir for Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, is the final complete symphony by Beethoven, composed between 1822 and 1824. It was first performed in Vienna on May 7, 1824 and is widely viewed by critics as one of Beethoven’s greatest works.

The piece will also feature Melissa Maloney, soprano; Alta Dantzler, mezzo soprano; Drake Dantzler, tenor; and John-Paul White, bass.

“I’m incredibly excited that our students have the opportunity to perform such important, exciting music at historic Orchestra Hall,” said Dr. Michael Mitchell, a professor of music and director of choral activities at OU. “These two pieces, by the great composers Beethoven and Schoenberg, represent the true power of music.”

Orchestra Hall is in the Max M. Fisher Music Center, at 3711 Woodward Ave., in downtown Detroit. There is a parking structure adjacent to the hall. Directions and parking information is available on the Detroit Symphony Orchestra website.

The concert is being held in commemoration of National Holocaust Remembrance Day, which takes place on Thursday, April 12. It is also the final performance of the SMTD Celebration Series, which is presented by Oakland University Credit Union.

Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for the general public. They may be purchased online without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Varner Box Office on OU’s campus or at Orchestra Hall one hour before the performance.
