Graber

Sidney W. Graber Memorial Award

Dr. Sidney W. Graber devoted his career to helping students with learning disabilities and emotional impairments. Prior to coming to Oakland University, he served 32 years as the first director of Children’s Orthogenic Center, which merged with Phoenix Place in 1983 to form Development Centers. Development Centers continues to fulfill its mission to improve the lives of individuals, families and the community by meeting behavioral health, social and vocational needs through a continuum of prevention, treatment and training services. 

Graber’s legacy of passionate concern for students with special needs is perpetuated through this award established by his family in 1996 after his passing and established as an endowment in 2004 to benefit students pursuing a career in special education. 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • pursuing a graduate degree in Special Education in the Department of Human Development and Child Studies
  • minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • preference is given to student who have completed at least 12 hours of graduate coursework
  • financial need is not required but may be considered

Award Information:

The Sidney W. Graber Memorial Award is for approximately $1,000 and is given to one student each year. Recipients of this award will not be considered for this award in future years.
