Barbara and Allen Gough Endowed Scholarship

After raising two children and volunteering in the community, Barbara Gough returned to school to start a new career as a non-traditional student, Barbara brought much to the classroom by offering life experience, insights, and the perspective of someone committed to helping others succeed in life. Upon earning her bachelor’s degree from Oakland University in 1992, Barbara went on to earn a master’s degree from Wayne State University.

With her concentration in training and development, Barbara held several key positions in organizations throughout southeastern Michigan. In addition, OU was fortunate enough to have Barbara back on campus working as an instructor in the training and development program in the Department of Organizational Leadership.

Along with her husband, Allen, Barbara continues to make an impact on Oakland’s campus. With their generosity, they have established an endowment to award a scholarship to non-traditional students enrolled in the human resource development program.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • undergraduate student majoring in human resource development
  • minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • previously had their studies interrupted for 2 years or more

Award Information:

The Barbara and Allen Gough Endowed Scholarship award is approximately $8,500. Recipients of this award may reapply in future years.

Examples of Interrupted Studies

Students may have many reasons and examples of interrupted studies. Interruptions may occur in the completion of high school, delay in post-secondary education, or completion of college. To clarify what is meant by “interrupted studies”, see examples below. Please note that this list is not exhaustive:

  • graduating from high school, moving on to the military for two years or more, and then enrolling at Oakland University
  • graduating from high school and enrolling in Oakland University at least two years later
