Oakland Psychology department hosts international conference on The Evolution of Psychopathology
The Oakland University Department of Psychology has concluded a two-day conference with 90 attendees; including leading scholars from around the world to address The Evolution of Psychopathology. The event was held at the historic Meadow Brook Hall on April 18 and 19.
Psychology department leaders developed the conference to enrich the understanding of psychopathology and to recognize the importance of and encourage engagement in interdisciplinary collaboration on the topic.
“This year’s conference was a smashing success,” said Todd K. Shackelford, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor and Chair of Oakland University’s Department of Psychology. “The approach was multidisciplinary and attendees came from places like Brazil, Canada, Denmark, England, Germany, Malaysia and Norway. The conference also gave us a great opportunity to showcase our department and highlight the work being done in our graduate programs.”
This was the fourth conference in a series that will continue every two years to address the evolution of timely and important topics in the field of psychology. Prior conferences have included: The Evolution of Violence, The Evolution of Sexuality and The Evolution of Morality. Each of the prior conferences has resulted in academic volumes published by Springer.
This year’s conference was supported by Oakland University’s Office of the President, Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Office of the Vice Provost for Research, College of Arts and Sciences, Honors College and Center for Biomedical Research. In addition, the conference was supported by corporate partner Springer Science+Business Media.
