OU/PSA RTI Cohort

As part of its professional development opportunities, the Oakland University Office of Public School Academies (PSA Office) offers its schools a chance to participate in a cohort focused on Response to Intervention (RTI). Three schools are a part of this year’s cohort – Caniff Liberty Academy, Dove Academy, and Weston Preparatory Academy.

RTI is a multi-tiered approach to the early identification and support of students learning and behavioral needs. The teachers are working closely with PSA Office staff, Shawna Boomgaard and Adam LeRoy, on developing effective strategies that blend knowledge acquisition with hands-on application to ensure the success for their students. Adam and Shawna also support the teachers by assisting them with tools to design, implement, and evaluate RTI methods in their schools.

This work is structured as a combination of group workshops and onsite coaching. Teachers will receive State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCHECH) for their participation in the RTI Cohort.

My experience with Adam and Shawna has been invaluable! With their guidance, we have been able to refine our RTI process, and are well on our way toward implementing learning cycles into our ELA program. Adam and Shawna create an environment conducive to collaboration amongst the participating teachers, and make each of us feel valued when sharing our ideas. Kristen Wild, Teacher Dove Academy.

Working with Adam and Shawna has enabled us to streamline our RTI process and provides us the opportunity to collaborate to implement learning cycles in our building. Lisa McIntrye, Dove Academy.
