Sandra Packard

Sandra Packard served as Oakland University’s president from 1992 – 1995. During this time she introduced a capital improvement program; increased state funding; increased gifts and grants; introduced a School of Engineering masters program; received Board approval of a Sports and Recreation Center concept; and created the student liaison position to the Board of Trustees.

She is currently professor of education and the coordinator of the Higher Education Program at Oakland University.

Packard joined Oakland University from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she served from 1985 – 1992 as provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and Tenured professor of Curriculum and Instruction. From 1981 - 1985 she was the dean and Tenured professor of Curriculum and Instruction for the College of Education at Bowling Green State University. She was the associate provost for Special Programs at Miami University from 1980 – 1981. She was an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow in Academic Administration and a Mellon Fellow, where she worked with the president and executive vice presidents for Academic Affairs and Business and Finance.

Packard holds an Ed.D. in Art Education with a concentration in educational psychology, a Ms.Ed. in art education from Indiana University,and a bachelor of Fine Arts with teaching certification from Syracuse University.
