As the Chief Executive Officer the President has overall responsibility for the university. The President provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of the university, including academics, finance, planning, student affairs and enrollment management, advancement, athletics, government and community relations and other key areas. The Provost, vice presidents, and several other staff members report to the President. The President works closely with the Provost and vice presidents to ensure that the strategic direction and policies of the university are aligned with its mission. The President reports to the Board of Trustees and works with the Board in establishing policies to guide the institution.

The senior vice president for Academic Affairs and provost is the chief academic officer for the university. The provost oversees the academic schools and the College of Arts and Sciences, Kresge Library, and offices related to research, undergraduate and graduate education, the Eye Research Institute, institutional research, international, enrollment management and Registrar.

The vice president for Finance and Administration leads the financial and business services functions of the university. The vice president serves as treasurer to the Board of Trustees and chief financial officer to the Oakland University Foundation. The vice president oversees the university's day-to-day financial and business services.

Government and Community Relations

The vice president for Government and Community Relations monitors state and federal activities for the university and informs the president and campus community on its impact. Activities include, but are not limited to, legislation, executive orders, and rules and regulations. In addition, the vice president works to influence the outcome of various executive and legislative actions by sharing the university’s interest to public officials and responding to their constituency concerns’ involving the university.

The Senior Advisor to the President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for establishing a clear and strategic direction for equity and inclusion initiatives. In addition, this position creates new alliances with business and community leaders who seek our help on issues related to diversity and cultural competence.

The vice president for Student Affairs oversees the development and daily operations of student programs, support services and facilities including student housing and food service, the Oakland Center, campus recreation center, health and counseling centers, career services, minority and disability support services, new student orientation and new student programs, dean of students, First Year Advising Center, tutoring and pre-college outreach programs.

The vice president for legal affairs and general counsel and secretary to the Board of Trustees, represents the interests of the university on all institutional legal matters, provides legal counsel to the Board of Trustees and president, and organizes meetings of the Board of Trustees and other board-related activities. Zambardi manages the Office of General Counsel and Board of Trustees. The General Counsel's office also is responsible for the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives, which addresses questions and concerns regarding equal employment opportunity and affirmative action in employment at Oakland University.

The director of Athletics provides leadership for the university's 16 intercollegiate sports. Competing in Division I of the NCAA, Oakland is a member of the Horizon League. The department maintains a strong commitment to academic integrity and student-athlete welfare, while serving as a source of institutional/community pride and alumni re-entry to campus activities.

The Department of Internal Audit independently examines and evaluates university activities as a service to the president and Board of Trustees. The department provides analyses, appraisals, recommendations and evaluations of internal controls to assist members of the university in the effective discharge of their responsibilities. Findings are reported to the Board of Trustees and senior management.
