Oakland University’s Six Fridays at 6 Summer Carillon Concert Series, which features carillonneurs from around the world, will celebrate its fifth anniversary this year with a series of outdoor concerts starting on Friday, July 10.

“Listening to carillon music is a great way of enjoying a live outdoor performance while social distancing in a large, open area,” said Dennis Curry, OU’s resident carillonneur.

The free concerts will take place at 6 p.m. on Fridays next to the Elliott Tower on OU’s campus. The tower features a fully chromatic 49-bell carillon, which was the last carillon to have its bells and keyboard cast by the Petit and Fritsen Royal Bellfoundry in the Netherlands.

“Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a relaxing evening listening to the sounds of this unique instrument,” Curry said.

Guest performers are recognized international carillonneurs who will provide a wide variety of music. Performers include:

• July 10: Dennis Curry - Oakland University & Kirk in the Hills

• July 17: George Matthew, Jr. - Middlebury College & Norwich University

• July 24: Tiffany Ng - University of Michigan

• July 31: John Gouwens - Culver Academies

• August 7: Ray McLellan - Michigan State University

• August 14: Paul Stelben - Yale University

“The Six Fridays at 6 Summer Carillon Concert Series is a great way to start the weekend,” Curry said.
