Collection buckets were placed in the Oakland Center and outside the dining areas at Vandenberg Hall and Hillcrest Hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 to aid in the fundraising effort.
The effort was a collaboration of several groups on campus and led by Jean Ann Miller and the Office for Student Involvement.
Student Congress president Destinee Rule and several other students donated and volunteered for the effort.
Chris Russell, who is a student adviser to the Oakland University Board of Trustees and chair of the Student Program Board at OU, donated and volunteered his time to the fundraising effort.

Members of the Athletic Department stopped by for the event kickoff and donated proceeds from the weekend's men's soccer and women's volleyball contests to the fundraising efforts.
After Hurricane Dorian caused severe damage at the University of The Bahamas, Oakland University community members stepped up to help the fellow higher education institution.
