Diverse Voices Conference reminds us “Diversity Matters”
This year's Diverse Voices Conference is being held Saturday, March 23.

The 17th annual Diverse Voices Conference takes place at Oakland University’s Varner Recital Hall from at 10 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. It is open to everyone and there is no charge to attend.

The conference’s goal is to provide a supportive forum for students, faculty, staff and community members to learn about and speak out in support of valuing all aspects of human diversity.

This year’s Diverse Voices conference theme is “Diversity Matters.” The keynote speaker for this year’s conference will be Dr. Michael Chaney, Associate Professor of Counseling from the School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) at Oakland University.

Additional Oakland University guest speakers Include: Jennifer De La O from the Accreditation Office in SEHS, along with student speakers from the SEHS Human Resource Development Undergraduate Program.

Refreshments will be served and entertainment will be provided by Alicea Davis, spoken word artist and author, along with a dance performance by Morgan Scott.

“The Diverse Voices event is unique in that it moves diversity education outside of the classroom and into a forum-like setting on campus in order to expand discussion on a variety of diversity focused topics with OU students, administrators, faculty, staff and community members,” said Chaunda L. Scott, Ed.D., an associate professor with the Organizational Leadership Department in OU’s School of Education and Human Services.

The 2019 Diverse Voices Conference is sponsored by the Office of the Provost at Oakland University and the Department of Organizational Leadership in OU’s School of Education and Human Services.
