Rising To The Top Of The Summit

Kim Rovinski graduated with her Master degree in Public Administration in December 2013. A member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for the field of public affairs and administration, Rovinski worked with OU INC on the North American Suppliers Partnership Summit. Working with OU INC showed her she wanted to go into Economic Development.

Attendees of the OU INC hosted summit included a diverse group of leaders from across the North American supply chain. Exploring the barriers currently limiting the adoption of environmentally and economically impactful manufacturing processes, Rovinski was a part of the technical team that was used to input ideas and promote collaboration among participants. Rovinkski was able to identify and share many of the key outcomes including the perceived barriers, methods to improve the business climate for innovation, and ideas to secure the manufacturing talent pipeline.

Rovinski grew up in Farmington Hills, MI with her brother and 2 sisters. Now, a mother of 3 boys, Rovinski enjoys hiking, camping, and being active in boy scouts. With all 3 of her sons being eagle scouts, Rovinski is proud that she has passed down her passion to her children. Through her leadership she has won multiple awards and honors with the boy scouts.

While completing her master program, Rovinski worked as a master intern for the city of Rochester Hills. As part of her capstone in the economic development department, Rovinski was responsible for numerous tasks. Rovinski was responsible for researching and updating community information including community demographics, identifying economic development tools, and tax information. This information is used to demonstrate business attraction for the city of Rochester Hills.

Currently, Rovinski works for Orbitak International LLC. Orbitak is a German consulting firm contracted by MEDC for the Mat2 system. Rovinski is responsible fo recruitment of students from high schools, community colleges, veterans and career technical centers, planning and coordinating presentations to potential students, parents, school administration, educators, counselors and career technical teachers, assist with conducting company fairs, and reporting recruiting metrics to MEDC.

“Using the resources and networking opportunities at Oakland University helped me to achieve my educational goals and career goals” Rovinski said “I strongly urge any student to talk to your advisors, network with other students, join professional organizations, and never look at any situation as a waste of time…there is something to be learned and to be gained by everything! I have often found my best network connections through meetings that I did not think were successful.”
