Ideal Master’s Program for IB Teachers or Those Aspiring to the International Baccalaureate

Tue Jul 12, 2016 at 01:00 PM

New changes in OU’s Master of Education in International Baccalaureate Education make this the ideal program for educators all over the world to obtain a graduate degree that is in alignment with the practices and philosophies of their IB schools. In cooperation with the International Baccalaureate Organization, this program is one of only 12 universities in the world offering this now fully online degree program with in-state tuition rates.

IB educators can participate in the program from anywhere in the world. Recent graduates and enrollees in the program hail from Jamaica, Thailand, China, the US and many other countries! The richness and diversity of this virtual cohort of learners contributes to a learning culture where international mindedness and intercultural awareness is at the core of the learning.

Whether working in PYP, MYP or DP schools, students in the program focus on the major tenets of the IB, including holistic inquiry based, teaching and learning and the Learner Profile. Whether teachers are new to the IB or have IB experience, this program will enrich and deepen learning about IB principles and practices. Best of all, coursework is individualized and aligned with expectations and goals of IB schools and classrooms, and assignments and projects completed for the degree program are those required of the IB teacher. Through the course of study, graduate students dig deeper into IB philosophy through the study of various IB publications, and analyze their own lessons and units for alignment with IB principles.

Best of all, instructors in the program are full-time and adjunct faculty with extensive K-12 and IB experience as teachers, heads of schools, principals, IB coordinators and IB Board of Directors, and includes faculty from nearby International Academy, ranked the #1 International Baccalaureate School in America by U.S. News and World Report.

The degree is a 32-credit cohort program that can be completed in two years. It includes eligibility (after the initial 20 credits) for the IBO endorsed Certificate in Teaching and Learning that makes current and future teachers highly sought after for their comprehensive knowledge of IB education. Cohorts begin each Fall Semester at OUSEHS.
