What is e-Learning and Instructional Support - e-LIS

Last week, Oakland University used it’s social media channels to let people know that the university is there for them, even through online classes. That support starts with e-Learning and Instructional Support. In short, we are the Moodle people.

e-LIS offers software support in addition to providing a variety of workshops, an online best practices course and instructional design assistance for instructors. We give them the opportunity to utilize our professional media lab, the possibilities of the Lightboard, or our state of the art virtual reality lab.

For students, we make sure that the quality of the online education they are getting is top-notch. We’re also able to answer questions pertaining to Moodle to help each student get the most out of their course.

Here is e-Learning and Instructional Support Director Shaun Moore explaining how our department is here for you as we face an uncertain future.

Hi. I'm Shaun Moore director of e-Learning and Instructural Support at Oakland
University. COVID-19 has disrupted many things in our lives but we don't want impact OU students' education. At e-Learning and Instructional Support, our job is to prepare OU faculty to be the best online educators they can be. And also provide resources and answer students questions so they can be successful.

Online learning isn't new to Oakland University even pre-pandemic. We offer numerous online courses and we have 23 completely online programs. As online program graduates can
contest the degrees they earn are just as valuable and respected by their employers as traditional on-campus programs. The quality and content of OU's online courses are the same.

OU faculty members are working hard to increase their skills in online learning so the student experience is richer and more engaging. Many faculty have enrolled in e-Learning's Quality Online Teaching Certification course or are participating in other professional development opportunities this summer.

But faculty don't just learn from us they're also learning from each other, collaborating so they can continue to enhance the online learning experience for OU's students. We know that many
students have found themselves unacceptably thrusted into online learning but be assured that OU faculty and staff are working hard to provide the best possible learning experience to help all students succeed.
