Genisys Credit Union gift supports OU-Pontiac collaboration
Parent University
Leaders from Pontiac and OU gathered in Pontiac Public Library for a Parent University meeting in 2015.

Oakland University’s collaboration with the City of Pontiac is getting a boost thanks to a $6,000 gift from Genisys Credit Union. The gift will support Parent University, a community collaboration to help Pontiac resident parents become full partners in their children’s education.

For this year’s Parent University, Pontiac area parents will identify issues that specifically impact their children’s education. Oakland University will engage speakers to address those issues during events at various Pontiac school district sites. The $6,000 gift will cover the costs associated with these events, including childcare costs for attending parents, speaker travel costs and refreshments.

"We are very proud to support Parent University in partnership with the Pontiac School District and Oakland University," said Jackie Buchanan, President and CEO of Genisys Credit Union in Auburn Hills. "We recognize the importance of investing in the communities we serve and helping children and families pursue a bright future. This collaboration will provide Pontiac residents with knowledge and skills to address the issues that are most important in their lives."

Patricia Dolly, OU’s senior adviser to the President for diversity, equity and inclusion, added, “We are extremely grateful for the support that Genisys Credit Union has contributed toward bringing Parent University to Pontiac residents. Education has the power to transform lives, and Oakland University is committed to fostering programs that positively impact individuals not only on our campus, but also in the communities that surround us.”
