Oakland University President George W. Hynd has appointed Angie Schmucker to the position of vice president, Development and Alumni Relations (VP-DAR) effective March 1.

“I am thrilled that Angie is stepping into this role, which will benefit the university while the DAR division transitions to its next chapter of enhancing alumni relationships and raising private support for Oakland University,” Hynd said. “She is an accomplished and dedicated fund raising professional.”

Schmucker, who has held the prestigious Certified Fund Raising Executive status since 2007, was recently named OU’s 2015 Outstanding Administrative Professional of the Year. With a successful, 14-year tenure at Oakland, she has served as interim campaign director for the past eight months.

In her prior role as executive director of Planned and Annual Giving, she secured millions of dollars to support the academic units and departments at Oakland. In 2014 alone, she was responsible for $11 million in gifts and commitments.

Schmucker also has overseen the establishment of countless new academic scholarships, the Senior Class Gift and the Parent/Family Giving Campaign. She also helped launch the Student Philanthropy Committee, the Black and Gold Loyalty Society, the Planned Giving Vision Society, the Oakland Circle and the Pioneer Club for OU retirees.

Other accomplishments include orchestrating and executing the merger of the university’s Planned Giving and Annual Giving operations, and raising more than $7.8 million during OU’s Innovation and Opportunity capital campaign which ended in 2009.

Prior to coming to Oakland, Schmucker held technical, planning and marketing positions with Kelly Services, Keycorp and Andersen Consulting.

“Over the last several months I have seen exciting changes which positively impact the future of philanthropy at Oakland University,” she said. “OU is poised for growth in both development and alumni relations with a new group of deans who are enthusiastic about fundraising, a shift to a fall homecoming that attracts thousands to campus, and gifts in the millions coming in more frequently.”

Schmucker is also active off campus a member of the Southeast Michigan Planned Giving Roundtable, the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning, CASE, and Association of Fund Raising Professionals. She is also a mentor for the nonprofit organization Women of Tomorrow.

Schmucker and her family are season ticket holders for OU basketball games and Meadow Brook Theatre performances. A colleague described her as someone who exemplifies what it means to be a proud employee and an enthusiastic community ambassador.
