Nominations open for the inaugural Monica E. Emerson Diversity Award

Nominations are being accepted for the newly created Monica E. Emerson Diversity Award, in recognition of outstanding contributions to diversity and inclusion on campus.

 

The award is named for Oakland University Board of Trustee Emerita Monica Emerson in honor of her many contributions to Oakland and the surrounding community.

 

“Monica Emerson has been a champion in the field of diversity throughout her career,” said Patricia Dolly, OU’s senior adviser to the President for diversity, equity and inclusion. “She has not only served as a member of our Board of Trustees, but she also graduated from Oakland. This award is our way of creating a lasting legacy honoring her lifelong work in diversity, equity and inclusion.”

 

Anaward of up to $2,500 will recognize a specific project, program and/or practice that best reflects the implementation of Oakland University’s diversity and inclusion goals. The recipient of the award will be acknowledged at the annual Oakland University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Conference.

 

Nominations are welcome from any member of the university, including self-nominations and university community partners. They are due by Friday, January 15, 2016 and should be sent to Renee Dembeck at [email protected].
