The Assembly Quartet — featuring Oakland University Music Faculty Member and Soprano Saxophonist Jeffrey Heisler — recently released its newest album, “The Pedagogy Project, Volume 1: (Some) Assembly Required,” on Mark Records. The release aligns with the Quartet’s featured presentation at the prestigious Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
“This release represents the first installment in a visionary long-term initiative by the Assembly Quartet to enrich the saxophone quartet repertoire with artistically engaging yet accessible works for SATB and AATB configurations,” Heisler said. “With a commitment to fostering the next generation of chamber musicians, The Pedagogy Project commissions and curates new works that are not only musically fulfilling, but also playable by advanced high school and early collegiate-level ensembles.”
In addition to the album, the first collection of music from The Pedagogy Project is available from Just A Theory Press, making the works available to educators and performers seeking fresh, high-quality repertoire for student ensembles.
Outside of this four-volume collection, the remainder of the compositions and arrangements are available via the Quartet’s website at www.assemblyquartet.com.
“We hope that band directors, students, and instructors explore this repertoire and our reference recordings,” Heisler said.
