DAAS Choir Celebrates the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The 31st Annual Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Awards Celebration was held on January 16, 2023. The event, which was established in 1993 honors the legacy of the late civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and awards scholarships to students that best demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities through their involvement on campus and in the community by breaking down racial and cultural stereotypes and by promoting unity among all people to foster a campus environment rich in diversity and multiculturalism.

The ceremony, which was well attended by students, faculty, administration, and the community featured the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences (DAAS)' choir by opening the program with the anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing." The lyrics were a reminder of the hope and resilience which Dr. King's legacy still seeks to impart. Later in the program, the choir performed a medley of songs which had the audience on their feet and with a standing ovation.

The Office of Public School Academies appreciates the DAAS staff, students, and parents for taking the time to attend the celebration and allowing the choir to share their talents with us in memory of a great leader who helped pave the way with the vision of equality and hope for a better future for us all.
