DAAS Choir Alumni Featured on Good Morning America

Featuring the historical museum in their morning show, Good Morning America celebrated the voices of Motown Museum with the help of former choir students from the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences. Tavion Knight, King Bethel, and Samuel Pickens were featured by kicking off the show with a passionate performance of “I Second That Emotion” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

Each student spent time learning through the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences choir and has continued to entertain in a variety of both artistic and impressive ventures. Tavion Knight is a singer, actor and dancer who recently released an EP titled “The Way of Love”, and can be found on platforms like YouTube, Apple Music (Tavion Knight) and Spotify (Tavion Night). King Bethel is a singer/rapper, songwriter and producer who released a single titled “Company” in 2022, and whose music can be found on Apple (King Bethel) and Spotify (King Bethel). Samuel Pickens raps, sings and acts, and has been known to combine all three talents such as in his performance on the play, “Lines Blurred” in 2020. He also spent time on Broadway portraying a young Michael Jackson.

Joined by a crowd who gathered around the Good Morning America show on the Detroit Riverfront, the DAAS alumni made sure to put on a show. Following the DAAS alumni’s flawless execution of the song, the morning show focused on the voice behind the customer service center at the Motown Museum, noting the importance of culture and diversity as the backbone of a historic building. The full performance is available on YouTube.
