OUWB Clinical Emeritus/Emerita 

Clinical Faculty Emeritus/Emerita are former clinical faculty members at the rank of professor or associate professor who have retired in good standing from their profession after generally at least 10 years of continuous employment with Beaumont Health and service to the medical school. The medical school awards this designation as an honor based on outstanding contributions to the medical school.

Eligibility

Clinical faculty at the associate professor or professor rank within OUWB School of Medicine with a distinguished record of service and achievements. Clinical faculty who have retired or are retiring from Beaumont Health are eligible for appointment as emeritus/emerita faculty at their rank at the time of retirement.

Provisions

Clinical Emeritus/emerita faculty may continue to be involved in the life and community of the medical school, and are provided access to the medical school library. Emeritus/emerita faculty may serve on standing committees, and are eligible to attend and vote at Faculty Assembly meetings.

Clinical Emeritus/emerita faculty are appointed at their final academic rank and are not required to participate in the Meaningful Participation Program. Emeritus/emerita appointments are only available in the candidate’s primary department assignment. Continued emeritus/emerita status requires continued personal and professional behavior that is in alignment with the OUWB Professional Code of Conduct, and compliance with medical school policies for conflicts of interest and commitment with any role in medical school activities.

Process

A retiring faculty member may be recommended for emeritus/emerita status by the appropriate Department Chair with approval of the Dean of the School of Medicine. Department chairs must submit a written proposal to the Dean outlining the candidate’s record of achievement within OUWB School of Medicine on the forms provided by the Office of Faculty Affairs. The Dean will determine the appropriateness of an emeritus/emerita faculty appointment. The determination of the dean is final. The Associate Dean for Academic & Faculty Affairs shall ensure reporting to the School of Medicine’s Committee on Appointments Promotion and Tenure and the Oakland University Board of Trustees for record keeping and for informational purposes only.

Tenured Faculty Emeritus/Emerita are former tenured faculty members at the rank of professor or associate professor who have retired in good standing from their profession after generally at least 10 years of continuous employment with Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB). The medical school awards this designation as an honor based on outstanding contributions to the medical school.

Tenured faculty at the associate professor or professor rank within OUWB School of Medicine with a distinguished record of service and achievements. Tenured faculty who have retired or are retiring are eligible for appointment as emeritus/emerita faculty at their rank at the time of retirement.
