Dr. Forbes joined the faculty at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in January 2011. He has been Associate Professor of Anatomy at OUWB since that time, as full-time faculty until 2018, and currently as adjunct faculty. He was instrumental in formulating the initial anatomy curriculum for the medical school and was Course Director for the Neuroscience Organ Systems Block in 2012. During his tenure at the school, Dr. Forbes has served as the Interim Vice Chairperson of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (currently named the Department of Foundational Medical Studies) and as Ombudsman for that department.

Prior to joining OUWB, Dr. Forbes maintained a solo private practice of general dentistry in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, for many years, during which time he served as Adjunct Professor of Anatomy at the University of Maine at Orono and Bangor campuses. In 1996, Dr. Forbes concluded his dental practice to join the faculty of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. There, he was Course Director for all Gross Anatomy education, including courses for dental students, graduate dentists, and residents in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Simultaneously, Dr. Forbes served as Adjunct Professor of Anatomy, in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Wayne State University School of Medicine.

For 25 years, Dr. Forbes served as an editor of Today’s Christian Doctor, the journal of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations. He has received several teaching awards, including the American Dental Association’s Golden Apple Award in 2010, and was designated Best Basic Science Instructor at OUWB School of Medicine in 2013. He was elected to the Dental Honorary Society Omicron Kappa Upsilon in 2011.
