OUWB hosts the Faircloth Evening of Humanism

3/2/2020

Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and the Oakland University School of Education and Human Services welcome Hedy Wald, Ph.D., clinical professor of Family Medicine, Alpert Medical School of Brown University and faculty member, Harvard Medical School Global Pediatrics Leadership Program as the keynote speaker for the evening of medical humanism.

Wald, the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, will share her story of teaching German medical students at Auschwitz as part of the course, “Cultivating Medical Awareness and Ethics through the Example of Medicine in National Socialism,” she taught while collaborating with Witten-Herdecke Faculty of Health, Germany.

The evening will also include the induction of OUWB medical students and Beaumont Health residents into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. The GHHS recognizes students, residents and faculty who are exemplars of compassionate patient care and who serve as role models, mentors and leaders in medicine. GHHS members the ones that others say they want taking care of their own family.

The Faircloth Evening of Medical Humanism signifies OUWB’s deeply-held commitment to the humanistic aspects of patient care. Attendance at the event is upon invitation only.
