RESEARCH INTERESTS: Modern Japanese and Korean Literature, Postcolonial Theory, Media Studies, Asian Cinema, Cross-cultural literary production.
Dr. Robert J. Del Greco is an Assistant Professor of Japanese Studies. His research interests include expatriate Korean literature in Japan, Japanese colonialism, popular media in contemporary Japan, and Japanese detective fiction. Prof. Del Greco was awarded his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in 2018. His dissertation discusses the postwar coterie magazine Democratic Korea and the intersection of literary production and political activism in the postwar Zainichi Korean community. He received an M.A. in 2009 and his B.A. in 2006 from the University of Kansas.
Before coming to Oakland University in fall 2019, Prof. Del Greco taught at the University of Maryland (College Park) and studied in Japan at the Inter-University Center for Japanese Studies (IUC) in Yokohama and at Obirin University (near Tokyo).
Prof. Del Greco currently serves as the Japanese minor advisor, Japan club faculty liaison, and Japanese class placement test coordinator. If you have any questions about Oakland’s Japanese minor, or to take a placement test (for those who have already taken some Japanese) email [email protected].
