Cross and Crown in London, England
Travel to London for a two-week vivid travel and learning experience with Dr. Engle. "Cross and Crown" will be offered as a Summer II course with the first four weeks on campus, so no need to take the summer or semester off work. One particular focus of this course will be the establishment of the Church of England: why did the Tudors' establish their own Church for England, and how does it compare to other branches of Christianity? Then, it’s off to England to see the sights learned about in the classroom. Travel dates TBD.
Will Be
In London, the students and professor will be housed in flats in Richmond Court. Full English breakfasts are included. Students will be responsible for other meals in London. With Imperial College as home base, the class will be within walking distance from tube stations and in close proximity to all things Tudor: St. James Palace, Lambeth Palace, Westminster and Whitehall. Hampton Court Palace and Windsor Castle are a short train ride away as well.
Will learn
The first half of the Cross and Crown course on campus through lectures and reading will provide historical background of the Tudor monarchy that enables understanding and analysis of the cultural development of England. The second portion of this course, two weeks in England, is designed to provide a vivid travel experience with immersion in English culture and encourages analysis of England's cultural and ecclesiastical development. Journaling and daily meetings will guide this understanding and analysis.
Bring
Bring layered travel clothing: England in June is most likely mild and rainy, or hot and dry. You'll want to be prepared for all types of weather. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as is an umbrella and all bathroom necessities. Our rooms will have all linens and pillows provided.
