Internet Explorer with Compatibility View

Internet Explorer with Compatibility View

Footprints Public Solution #90014 | Updated March 2016

If you receive a message while logged into your webmail account that states you are using Internet Explorer with Compatibility View enabled and that it should disable it, according to Google you may take the following steps to disable it. If you are not using Internet Explorer version 8, you cannot make this change.

If you have enabled Internet Explorer Compatibility View for google.com, it may cause some Gmail features to display incorrectly. If you're using this setup, we suggest that you remove google.com from your list of sites that have Compatibility View enabled. To do this, follow the steps below:

  • Open the Tools menu and select Compatibility View Settings.
  • Select 'google.com' under 'Websites you've added to Compatibility View'.
  • Click Remove.
  • When you close the Settings window, the page you're on will refresh and display in normal IE8 mode.

If you don't see google.com listed or if these steps don't help you resolve the problem, try the following additional steps:

  • Click Tools
  • Select Compatibility View Settings
  • Uncheck the box labeled 'Include updated website lists from Microsoft.'

Note: If your Windows computer is administered by your organization, you may not be able to access Compatibility View Settings or remove google.com from the list of affected domains. Please contact your administrator or helpdesk as they may have used a Windows group policy setting to set this parameter for you.
