How do I create an ODBC connection

How do I create an ODBC connection

Footprints Public Solution # 70821 Updated March 2016

To create an ODBC connection for Bannerprod or PROD

  1. First, you need to first turn off the User Account Control Settings. Go into the Control Panel from the Start and select User Accounts then User Accounts again and then finally select Change User Account Control Settings. Drag the bar all the way down to Never notify and click OK. You will need to restart your computer in order for the changes to take effect.
  2. Install the ODBC driver from \\shares\free and double click on “ODBC_Driver_Install”`
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and when prompted to restart type in 'n' and hit enter and close the dialog box. Restore the User Account Control Settings by dragging the bar all the way up and then clicking OK. Restart the computer after making the changes.
  4. Once the computer has restarted, Click on Start then Control Panel.
  5. Double-click “Administrative Tools”
  6. Double-click “Data Sources (ODBC)” (Windows 10: 'ODBC Data Sources')
  7. Click on the tab for “System DSN”, and verify that 'BannerPROD' is added.
  8. Access the database to verify installation.
