Alumni
Board
The Honors College Advisory Council was established in 2002 to assist The Honors College with its vision and programs from the perspective of a body looking back on their years as students at Oakland and in The Honors College. It is comprised of the dean and a selected group of alumni and friends of the Honors College representing a broad range of professions -- medicine, law, teaching and business.

They convene to assist with the plans and programs of The Honors College, and to help The Honors College envision how these might best be implemented as we prepare students for advanced degrees and/or employment in the public and private sectors.

Current Advisory Board members
Aaron Burns
Aaron Burns is a double OU alum - he graduated from the Honors College in 2008, and earned his MBA from Oakland's School of Business in 2011. Aaron has a passion for creativity, entrepreneurship and his Christian faith; he enjoys uniting these passions in his role as a feature film producer. Aaron and his wife Andrea currently live in Lake Orion.
Richard Deary
Richard graduated from the Oakland University Honors College in 1985 and continues to be an ardent supporter of OU and the Honors College. He currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina and is a partner and equity owner of an institutional investment management firm located in San Diego, California. Richard believes strongly in a vision that would position the Honors College as the “crown jewel” of the Oakland University undergraduate program and serve as the foundation for attracting the “best and the brightest” to Oakland University. He believes that the Honors College provides a distinct and unique experience hard to find at other public universities which helps students to learn how to think and not what to think.
Susan Evans
Susan (“Sue”) Jezewski Evans, Esq., is an alumnus of Oakland University, Honors College, Class of 1988. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School, magna cum laude, in 1992. Sue served as a member of the Oakland University Alumni Association’s Board of Directors from 1992-2005, including serving as Chairperson from 2002 – 2004. Since 2002, she also has served as the inaugural Chairperson of Oakland University Honors College Advisory Counsel. Christopher Rohlman
My career path began with Oakland faculty that engaged me in the classroom and the laboratory. My Honors College courses examined concepts that ranged from what is culture, to equality in society. The interests sparked at Oakland carried on through my graduate and post-doctoral work in Ann Arbor with the support of my faculty mentors. I chose a career as a faculty member at liberal arts colleges that value both classroom learning and undergraduate research. That choice was modeled to a large extent on the faculty I had at Oakland.

I have been involved in undergraduate science and math education and student-faculty collaborative research throughout my career. This has included national efforts through professional organizations like Project Kaleidoscope as well as through chemistry, biochemistry and molecular life sciences disciplinary societies. Along the way I have managed to balance and meld those professional interests with a love of music, and a life outside the lab. You can find me in the concert hall, on the sidelines of soccer matches, on the course, or along trails from Michigan to California hiking or biking.
Laura Saul-Edwards
Lauren Sanchez-Murphy
Lauren F. Sanchez-Murphy received her Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2010. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Oakland University and competed for the Golden Grizzlies on the Women's Varsity Tennis Team from 2003 through 2007. While in law school, she served as the Editor in Charge of Articles for the Loyola University Chicago International Law Review. Currently, she is the Assistant General Counsel and Compliance Manager at CrossFire Group, LLC. She specializes in business, employment and contract law as well as human resources.
Mary Wermuth
As president of the newly formed Oakland University Alumni Association, I worked with Dr. Mel Cherno to help form the Honors College. As the student body increased in size in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, several faculty and many alums could see that the early days of “The Harvard of the Midwest” were disappearing. To preserve that core challenge that brought students to MSUO in the early years, the Honors College was born.

My three claims to fame are that I can hang three diplomas from MSUO, MSU-OU, and OU on my wall; that I can now teach at the Honors College, and that I am a member of the HC Alumni Advisory Council. What a wonder-filled life OU has given me.
