PrintWise is a system that works with computer stations and Oakland University (OU) GrizzCards that provides fast, secure, and cost-effective printing in OU’s open computer labs in:
  • Elliott Hall: Open Computer Lab (room 215) and Teaching Computer Lab (room 223)
  • Kresge Library: Located throughout main floor
  • North Foundation: Career Services Career Technology Center (room 143)
  • Oakland Center: Cafe O'Bear's, Center for Student Activities, Exhibit Lounge, Student Technology Center, and common labs
  • O'Dowd Hall: Nursing Lab
  • Pawley Hall: Educational Resource Lab
  • Varner Hall: Music, Theatre, and Dance (MTD) Resource Room (room 237)
  • Wilson Hall: Art Labs
OU students receive $2.50 free prints for their PrintWise account on their GrizzCard each semester they are registered. After the $2.50 free prints are used, you may charge additional prints to your GrizzCa$h account.

Unused free prints will carry over to the next term registered through the end of the Summer semester.

GrizzCard holders can deposit money in their GrizzCa$h account using the Value-transfer Stations (VTS) near the open computer labs. VTS stations are located in the Oakland Center, second floor of Kresge Library, Elliott Hall student lounge, and Pawley Hall by the Education Resource Lab. For those guests who do not have a GrizzCard, the VTS also will dispense guest cards for use in PrintWise computer labs and to make photocopies in some locations on campus. The allocation of free prints is only available for use in the computer labs.
Printing Tips
Review these tips to help you manage your printing projects.

Print preview feature

Using the print preview feature will help avoid reprinting documents simply to make small editorial or layout changes. Most applications have a print preview feature. This feature allows you to see exactly how your page will look when printed.

Print only what you need

When printing a document, especially a Web page, print only what you need. Be smart about what you need to print. For example, often the last printed page from a website consists of an advertisement or a single line of information. Use the mouse to highlight the information you need and print only that information.

Reformat your documents to save resources, time and money

Microsoft Word – You can print multiple pages on a single page without reformatting your document. You can print up to 16 pages per sheet (though this amount is best for graphics only).

Microsoft Excel – The fit to page feature in Excel automatically rescales output to print evenly on one or several pages. You can force the document to print out on a single page or multiple pages in a specific width or length. Excel takes care of the scaling. You then should use the print preview feature to make sure the document prints on the correct number of pages and will look readable. You also may want to change paper orientation from portrait to landscape if the page needs to be wider to include more columns.

Microsoft PowerPoint – Using the handouts versus slides option is a good way to print presentations on fewer sheets of paper.
