As a counselor, you are on the front lines when it comes to advising students on the benefits of pursuing higher education. You know the importance of a college degree — especially having one in today's tough economic climate. In fact, college graduates earn an average annual salary that is more than $30,000 per year greater than the earnings of high school graduates, a trend that brings in an additional $1 million over the course of a lifetime.
Oakland University makes an exceptional education within reach. Here are a few steps we've taken to ensure an OU education remains affordable:
- Maintaining several academic merit scholarships for freshmen and transfers
- Releasing financial holds for students with tuition balances of less than $1,500
- Expanding payment plan options so students can spread their costs into several smaller payments
Remember, students do not pay a fee when applying to OU — and the process is managed completely online. And because we understand the needs of students coming to OU from a community college, we've made the transfer process quick and easy.
Please review the resources to the right to see all that Oakland has to offer your students.
Transfer students can apply to Oakland University at any point in the year. But to be eligible for scholarships, they need to apply by the published deadlines.
Students can transfer up to half of the minimum credits required for their intended degree from a community college. OU accepts transfer credit from all regionally accredited institutions and some non-regionally accredited institutions. All students transferring to OU must earn at least 32 credits at Oakland University to complete a bachelor’s program.
Once admitted, students will receive an official transfer credit evaluation. All coursework completed with a 2.0 (or equivalent) or better grade is evaluated. Transferred courses can be used for general education and major requirements. Academic departments will review transcripts for credits to be used toward major requirements by the end of the student's first semester at OU.
See how credits will transfer at oakland.edu/transfers.
International credit evaluation
Students with international credentials must have an official, course-by-course evaluation sent by World Education Services or Educational Credential Evaluator. More i nformation is available in the international section for prospective students.
Military students with one year of continuous active duty service are awarded four elective credits. Further transfer credit may be awarded after review of military transcripts and ACE guidelines. Information for military students is available in the veterans section for prospective students.
Each year, Undergraduate Admissions holds a community college counselor connection program on campus. Counselors learn about the advantages and benefits of an Oakland University education and receive information on the university to help advise their students.
For more information about the program, call (248) 370-4556 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Future students are encouraged to visit campus to see the facilities, hear about our academic programs from faculty, talk to currents students about campus life, and get a feel for Oakland. From daily tours to events just for transfer students, we strongly believe that a visit beats out any brochure. See all events on the visit page.
