Admitted Freshmen
Now that you have been accepted, you can download and print the step-by-step  enrollment guide for freshmen to stay on track during the enrollment process (you should also receive one with your acceptance letter). 

Make sure you're ready for your first semester at Oakland University by going over your  New Grizzly checklist. You may have already done some of it during your admissions process, but the checklist will make sure you've covered all your bases.

Please note: if you are admitted for the fall semester you must have your final, official transcript (including date of graduation) sent to Undergraduate Admissions by July 1.

Admitted Transfer

AdmittedVeterans
Follow these instructions and download the latest checklist for U.S. military veterans  for future reference and more tips and reminders. 
Sign up for orientation
Once admitted to Oakland University, you will be invited to attend orientation.
  • If you have taken military courses but no college or university courses, you are considered a first-year student. Sign up for first-year student orientation
  • If you have taken college or university courses in the past, you are considered a transfer student. Sign up for transfer student orientation
Visit the Veterans Certification Office
Oakland's  veteran certification is done within the Office of the Registrar at 101A O'Dowd Hall ( find on map). In this office, you will: 
  1. Submit your DD-214, Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) or Letter of Eligibility.
  2. Receive four free elective credits. 
  3. Sign up for priority registration (you'll be able to register for classes before open registration). 
  4. Certify to utilize VA education benefits. 
    • Submit plan of study.
    • Transfer GI Bill benefits to Oakland University from previous institutions (if applicable).
  5. Point of contact for students approved for vocational rehabilitation (Chapter 31).
Consider your financial plans
  • Complete the FAFSA online at fafsa.ed.gov to be considered for federal, state and/or need-based financial aid.
  • To maximize your financial aid award package, complete the FAFSA as soon as possible beginning January 1 for the upcoming school year. 
  • Include Oakland University's federal code of 002307 on your FAFSA.

Review your travel plans: 
  • To travel outside the U.S. before starting your program at Oakland University, you should enter the U.S. on your new I-20 or DS-2019.
  • You do not need to apply for a new visa as long as your current visa is still valid. However, the SEVIS ID Number on the visa must match the SEVIS ID Number on your new I-20 or DS-2019.

Guest

1. Activate Your Grizzly ID and NetID Accounts
Once accepted as a guest student at Oakland, you will have to activate your accounts in order to register for classes, pay your bills and receive important notifications about billing. 

To activate your Grizzly ID, aka the "G-number" (your SAIL account)

  1. Access MySAIL using the quick link at the top right of the home page.
  2. Under the login area, click "New student? Get your NetID and password." 
  3. Select "Reset/Change your Grizzly ID PIN."
  4. Follow the directions to change your PIN and/or security question.

To activate your NetID (your @oakland.edu email)

  1. Access MySAIL using the quick link at the top right of the home page.
  2. Under the login area, click "New student? Get your NetID and password."
  3. Select “Obtain your NetID account or reset your NetID password.”
  4. Follow the directions to create your NetID password.
Forward your @oakland.edu email to another email
Make sure you're receiving important updates, like when to pay your bill. Here's how to forward your Oakland email.
  1. When you're logged into your Oakland email, go to the top right and click "Mail settings."
  2. Click "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" on the top.
  3. Add a forwarding address that you check most often.
  4. Select "Forward a copy of incoming mail to:" and select the email address you want your Oakland email to forward to.
  5. Scroll down and select "Save changes." 
2. Pick up your SpiritCard from the ID Card Office
Located in 112 Oakland Center ( find on map). 
 
3. Register for classes (instructions on how to register)
If you receive an error message while registering for a course, contact the  academic department that offers it. Some courses may require specific prerequisites. A member of the department staff can verify that you meet the prerequisite and allow you to register. Registration opens for summer, fall and winter semesters in late March/early April. Check the registration schedule for dates. 

4. Pay
Oakland will send an email to your OU email account when your bill is ready to be viewed and paid online using eBill.  You will need your SAIL ID and PIN to access the eBill system. The eBill home page provides a brief overview of your current account status, recent and past billing statements, recent activity on your student account and available payment plans. Payments can be made online through eBill, in person or by mail.
