Oakland University’s School of Business Administration will welcome its first Honors class in the fall of 2018, but high school seniors interested in being admitted to the program are encouraged to apply starting in July 2017 as enrollment in the program is limited to 35 students per year.

“Oakland’s new Business Honors Program offers high-achieving high school students the chance to create an educational experience that matches their academic preparations,” said Dr. Nivedita Mukherji, associate dean of OU’s School of Business Administration. “Students in each cohort will be immersed in a highly interactive, stimulating program that offers customized classes, leadership experiences and access to enhanced student support services in a close-knit community inside the business school.”

To be considered for the program, high school students must have:

  • A high school GPA of 3.5 or greater after junior year

  • A combined SAT score of 1280 or higher or an ACT composite score of 27 or higher

  • A score of 660 or higher on the mathematics section of the SAT or a score of 620 or higher on the evidence-based reading and writing section; or an ACT math score of 28 or higher or an ACT English score of 28 or higher.

Students must apply by Dec. 1 of their senior year and complete an online application, which includes a personal essay. Acceptance into the program is decided in the spring and students are admitted to the program as freshmen each fall.

To remain in the program, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 every semester.

As the only stand-alone Business Honors program at a Michigan university, Oakland’s program offers students an opportunity to declare a major by the end of their sophomore year; take part in at least one international experience; represent OU in national and international competitions; and form a strong network with peers and members of the professional community that will serve them well in their careers.

Students and families interested in learning more about the program are invited to an information session Friday, Aug. 18. Learn more about the Business Honors program and register for the information session at Oakland.edu/business/undergrad.
