Lindsay Zeig
Lindsay Zeig, an adviser in the Bachelor of Integrative Studies program, is the 2015-2016 winner of OU's Outstanding Professional Advising Award.

Lindsay Zeig, an academic adviser in Oakland’s Bachelor of Integrative Studies program, has earned the university’s 2015-2016 Outstanding Professional Advising Award. The award is given annually to an academic adviser who demonstrates exceptional mentoring and leadership skills, contributes to the development of new programs and supports student success.

Zeig has worked as an adviser in the Bachelor of Integrative Studies program since 2012. In this role, she provides career and academic counseling to current and prospective OU students. Zeig also led the development of a career counseling program, which offers career assessments, group workshops and individual appointments. She works with upper-level students, helping them design a degree program based on their specific career goals.

“It's a customized degree program to ensure that students are learning the necessary information for their career goals,” Zeig said. “My passion is in career counseling and development. I believe that helping students to choose a career that fits their natural strengths and abilities will lead to a meaningful lifetime of success and happiness.”

Prior to taking on her current role, Zeig served as an adviser and interim director at the Advising Resource Center, where she worked with students who were undecided on a major. She began her OU career in University Housing, working as a graduate assistant hall director and has also served as a Communication Instructor through the Office of New Student Programs. Zeig earned two degrees at Oakland – a bachelor’s in communication and master’s in counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.

This is not the first time Zeig has been recognized for her advising talents. In 2010, she received the Outstanding New Adviser Award from the National Academic Advising Association and has been named OU’s Adviser of the Month on four occasions.

In addition to her advising duties, Zeig serves on several university committees, including the Adult Career Counseling Center Advisory Board and she is actively involved with OU-Macomb County Initiatives. She also served as Advising Week chair.

The selection committee for the Outstanding Professional Advising Award includes faculty and staff from across the university. The committee chair is Laurie Shano, winner of the 2014-2015 Outstanding Professional Advising Award.

Zeig will receive her award at a May reception.
