Oakland University community members struggling to cope with the tragic aftermath of the Oxford High School shooting incident on Tuesday are strongly encouraged to make use of available counseling and emotional support resources.
The Oakland County Health Network advises that it is important to remember that strong and difficult thoughts and feelings that one might have after a horrific incident such as this are to be expected. It is critically important for individuals feeling overwhelmed by these reactions to reach out to trusted family members, friends and/or mental health professionals and to share what they are going through.
Campus community members in need of support can take advantage of any of the following area resources:
Students, faculty and staff concerned about the mental health of friends or colleagues are encouraged to share these resources with those individuals.
In addition, the OU Counseling Center will have a presence at the Friday, Dec. 3 vigil at the Oakland Center and has reserved several virtual and in-person appointment times throughout the next few days for students who are in distress and need to speak with a counselor.
