Biography

Jessica Rico is a special lecturer at Oakland University, teaching WRT 1020, 1050, and 1060. In her teaching career, she has taught, in addition to composition courses, academic literacy, developmental writing, oral communication, art appreciation and media writing. Before she began teaching in 2010, she began working as a tutor and supplemental instructor at multiple college writing and learning centers in 2004. In her tutoring, she tutored in English, English as a Second Language, Spanish and study skills. 

In addition to teaching, Jessica is a Certified Life Coach. She enjoys bringing the motivational and goal-achieving skills from coaching training into her classroom to help students achieve their learning goals and create an interactive and student centered learning environment. 

Jessica loves learning, and currently enjoys listening to learning lectures, podcasts and courses in subjects such as cultural studies, history, literature, rhetoric, philosophy and psychology. She also runs a raucous book club of fellow readers. In addition, she enjoys reading (of course!), travel, and eighties pop music.
