Teacher Development and Educational Studies
If you want to become an outstanding teacher, we have a program for you!
At our core, we are teachers. And we are teachers teaching teachers. It’s what we do in the Department of Teacher Development and Educational Studies. We invite you to look at our programs designed to prepare you to flourish as an effective teacher and be a powerful influence in the lives of kids in schools.
We believe that teaching elementary students is far from elementary. Our program is designed to prepare outstanding future teachers with an intensive course of study spanning subject matter areas, professional education courses coupled with extensive classroom-based field experiences.
Capitalizing on a foundation of disciplinary knowledge, future secondary teachers complete a bachelor’s degree in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as a rigorous set of professional education courses in the School of Education and Human Services. These university-based experiences are complemented with classroom-based field experiences culminating with a year-long teaching internship.
