Build professional skills with Summer Student Campus Corps

Oakland University’s innovative Summer Student Campus Corps program -- now a university staple -- is about to begin its fifth year in business. The program provides meaningful on-campus employment for students in the summer months.

The campus corps program creates temporary, internship-style jobs to help undergraduate students build important professional skills and work experience, and get paid while they do it.

“Today’s employers are seeking applicants who are academically prepared and who have had dynamic work experiences,” said Cindy Hermsen, director of Financial Aid.

“Our summer corps program provides meaningful work experience in a professional setting, and has the added benefit of helping students pay for school by offering competitive wages and hours throughout the summer months.”

The program has grown steadily in the past several years and has consistently received a very positive response from administrators, professors and student participants, Hermsen continued.

The corps' paid positions will run from Monday, April 29, through Sunday, August 25. Working up to 40 hours a week, students can earn up to $10 an hour, or a maximum of $6,800, over 17 weeks.

This summer, a total of 84 campus corps positions are available. Eligible students must be Michigan residents who will continue their undergraduate education at Oakland in the fall 2013 semester.

Assignments include a wide variety of projects, in the academic, administrative and auxiliary realms. Available 2013 positions include:

  • IT Assistant/Programmer
  • Transfer Credit Guide Editor
  • Advising Communications Assistant
  • Research Assistant for Alzheimers
