Dr. Lauri A. Hogle
was appointed to the music education faculty of Oakland University in 2018, where she teaches undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students in music education. Prior to her position at OU, she taught music education and choral conducting at The College of Wooster, where she also directed the Wooster Singers choir. She earned a BM in Music Therapy (University of Evansville), music teacher certification (Georgia State University), a MM in Music Education with Kodály Emphasis (Colorado State University), and a PhD in Music Education (Oakland University). Dr. Hogle’s passion to bring musical expression to all has taken her from providing music therapy for children with exceptionalities to performing across the country with an extensive range of professional and student musicians to serving as faculty accompanist with a variety of universities and high schools to leading general, choral, and instrumental music programs in school, studio, and community settings. Dr. Hogle has presented papers at numerous international and national music education research and education conferences and has published her work in Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, International Journal of Education & the Arts, and Research Studies in Music Education. Her most recent publications include an invited book chapter, "Empowering Strategies for Student-Centered Learning in Choir" for The Choral Conductor's Companion and "Fostering singing agency through emotional differentiation in an inclusive singing environment." Her current research interests include constructivist practice in music education (particularly in choral ensemble contexts), the role of singing agency in music education settings, and music teacher agency. She prizes collaborative dialogue with all music educators and learners.
