Tanya Christ, Ph.D.

Tanya Christ

Tanya Christ is an Associate Professor of Reading and Language Arts at Oakland University. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses related to reading assessment and instruction for children grades K-12, and advises doctoral research. Previously, she taught preschool and elementary school students in Buffalo and Brooklyn, New York.

Her research interests include the following:

  • Early childhood literacy, including vocabulary acquisition, comprehension, and processing of multimodal texts (e.g., iPad app books);
  • Teacher development, particularly the use of video as a socio-constructivist tool to support reflective practice and deep understanding of pedagogical issues; and
  • Issues of educational access and equity, including social and cultural capital and culturally relevant text in testing.
