What to Do in Case of an Auto Accident involving an OU Vehicle

  1. Remain at the scene. Do not move the vehicle unless it presents a safety hazard to others. If someone is hurt, call an ambulance, hospital or physician promptly.
  2. Report accident to appropriate authorities. Off campus, contact the local police department or dial 911.On Campus, contact Oakland University Police Department:
    1. Dial 911 from a campus phone
    2. Dial 248-370-3331 from a cell phone
    3. Send a text message to 67283. Include “OUPD” at the beginning of your message.
  3. Gather accident information. Obtain the name, address, and phone number of the driver of the other vehicle(s) as well as the name, address, and phone number of any injured person(s). Obtain the vehicle license number of the other automobile(s) as well as the driver license number of any other driver(s) involved. You may need to complete a diagram of the accident at a later time, so attempt to form a written or mental picture of how the accident happened.
  4. Obtain names, addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses.
  5. Call the Office of Risk Management. All accidents must be reported to Risk Management within 24 hours of occurrence:

  6. Complete the Vehicle Loss Report
  7. Send the completed form and police report to the:

  8. Upon notification, University Risk Management shall inform its TPA.
