SAT Preparation

Prepare with an expert teacher in a structured, interactive classroom.

Oakland University has partnered with Kaplan Test Prep to offer the SAT Academy Program. This course provides a research-based, comprehensive approach to preparing students for the SAT exam, and provides a comprehensive review of the key content and test-taking skills and strategies students need for success on the newly redesigned SAT. Full-length practice tests and an online study tool supplement the program to help students maximize performance on test day.

Instructional sessions emphasize critical thinking, close reading, problem solving, and data analysis skills to support students on the rigorous new exam.

  • Hours: 25 total hours - 18 hours of live instruction + 2 full-length, proctored exams
  • Practice tests: 4 (2 in-class, 2 available online)

    • Kaplan’s SmartPoints provide a systematic approach to test readiness so that instructors easily promote and prioritize instruction on the most relevant content and question-types including math, evidenced-based reading, and writing and language.
    • Using Kaplan's proven Prepare-Practice-Perform instructional mode, students benefit from expertly scaffolded lessons that provide defined support as they master new problem solving and critical thinking skills.Two (2) full-length SAT practice exams are given in the course, and students will receive full score reports to diagnose performance and analyze progress.
    • An online study tool for students extends learning beyond the classroom with two (2) additional full-length practice tests, video instruction led by expert Kaplan instructors, and comprehensive practice quizzes.
    • In class review of strategies that will help your student with critically important aspects of the test, such as time management.

SAT School Partnerships

OU PACE has begun partnering with schools in Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties to offer discounted SAT prep courses. Programs tak place at the home school, which allows for students to prep in a familiar, convenient location. 

Program Overview

  • Programs can be customized to meet individual school needs, but students will receive up to 18 hours of in-person instruction in addition to one or two fully-proctored practice tests.
  • Oakland University staff lead instruction and will work closely with school personnel to ensure program success.
  • Students receive a comprehensive course book and access to an online companion containing additional practice tests, quizzes and sample questions, and additional video instruction.

Section 31a At-Risk Program Description: Section 31a of the State School Aid Act provides funding to eligible Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and Public School Academies (PSAs) for the intent and purposes focused on the following student outcomes: attending school regularly, reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade, being proficient in mathematics by the end of 8th grade, and being career and college ready by high school graduation.
